Managing Director, Bell Helicopter

Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) B. S. Singh Deo joined Bell in January 1997 and is heading Bell’s interests in India, Nepal and Bhutan. He is currently responsible for marketing of Bell helicopters in the commercial and military market segments and also developing helicopter business in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Singh Deo began his career at Bell Helicopter as a Country Head and was responsible for increasing the commercial market share in India from a 4% to over 33%. He was instrumental in introducing all the commercial models in India including validation of Type Certificates by DGCA.

Singh Deo is a Six Sigma Green Belt and coordinated the high altitude trails of the Bell 407 in Nepal and the complete RFP process including Field Evaluation Trails of the Bell 407 in the Indian Army RFP for RSH. He was awarded ‘Service Excellence Award’ by CEO of Bell Helicopter in April, 2012 for bringing ‘Bell’s vision to India’.

Before joining Bell, Singh Deo served in the Indian Air Force as VVIP pilot, instructor, test pilot and examiner. He served as an instructor with the Iraqi Army Aviation on a 2-Year deputation from the IAF. He has a distinction of being the only pilot to be VVIP qualified as a Flying Officer and was the only helicopter pilot to achieve "A-1" instructor rating. He was awarded "Vayu Sena Medal" by the President of India for meritorious service in the IAF

Singh Deo served in Pawan Hans Limited for 5 years and was instrumental in starting flight operations with the Westland 30 and Dauphin helicopters. During this period he was made a member of DGCA’s Type Certification Board for helicopters. He also served with Malaysian Helicopter Services for 3 years as ‘Technical Pilot’ where his knowledge of offshore helicopter operations were useful in revising the Operations Manual for South China Sea operations.

Singh Deo set up his own private consulting company and provided consultancy services to a number of start up helicopter companies. As part of his business, he was invited by Ostermans Aero and Ericsson to Sweden for planning their proposed helicopter operations in India.

Singh Deo is a graduate of National Defence Academy and has completed several professional courses, viz. Helicopter Pilot Course (stood 1st in course), Flying Instructors Course (stood 1st in flying) and Production Test Pilots Course (stood 1st in the course) in the Indian Air Force; Pilot Training courses in the Westland 30 in U. K., S-76C in U. S. A. and Bell 206/407/430 in U. S. A.; course on ‘Managing Technological Change’ in U. K., Time Management and Negotiating Skills in Singapore and ‘Growth Leadership Course’ in Ohio State University

Personal Details

Singh Deo is Vice President of Aeronautical Society of India and Rotary Wing Society of India and an active member of International Helicopter Safety Team. He is founding member of ‘Netaji Subhash – INA Trust’ and ‘Kalinga – Lanka Foundation’.

Singh Deo lives in NCR Delhi with his wife, grown up children and grandson.
